The Roman Period
Wine was very appreciated by the Romans in the Vth century. This mosaic shows the luxury and the fineness of the villas on Bordeaux riverside.
"Oh my homeland, famous for Bacchus, famous for its rivers and famous for its great men...”, the Poet Ausone, Consul of Trève and private tutor of a Roman emperor. He was native to the region of Bordeaux and his villa was in Montagne Saint-Emilion. He gave his name to Château Ausone.
